Long time no hear, eh? Yes, yes we were silent for quite a long time, but I think when you see a glimpse of how we are reshaping your favorite Mac vehicle you will forgive us for neglecting our Blog in the last months. We were re-thinking many elements of ForkLift to optimize the workflow and improve the visual appearance even more with the upcoming Public Beta 3 release at the end of the month.
So here we go and don’t slobber your screen
First of all let me introduce our new, slick, integrated connect panel. No more unnerving extra window popping up from now on and what a pleasure for the eye!
We also designed a brand new integrated panel to manage and display your favorites in a much more sophisticated way. In the future you won’t have a huge sidebar with hundreds of favorites listed there, though the possibility to drag the most important ones there still remains.
In the previous Beta releases the progress bar was integrated into the sidebar and many of you guys complained about how inconvenient it can be in many cases. “Free the progress bar!” you screamed, and we heard it.
Here you go guys, you set it free: a neatly integrated progress bar at the bottom of the main window with a lot of new space to display relevant infos about the progress.
And last but not least… voilá Le Transfer Queue! Completely re-designed and integrated in the main window. To display it you will just have to click on the button at the left corner of the progress bar and it slides up right away. All items that where added to the transfer queue itself, as well as all other initiated actions are clearly displayed here and it is so good to look at it.
So much for today folks, I hope it was refreshing. Let us hear your voices as usual and stay tuned as more sweets are to be uncovered soon…

Hello guys. Everything is cool, but we’re upset that you have removed the progress-bar from the sidebar. It was MORE than convenient! A new progress-bar at the bottom takes a lot of space from the main window! And it stays constantly on, even when there are no activities. I honestly do not remember when discussing that someone complained of sidebar progress-bar. Rather, many people said that this is very convenient. I hope that you change your mind and return the progress-bar in the sidebar. Or at least give the opportunity to choose a user in the settings.
Best!
Hi Mike,
believe us we really thought this through in depth, just try it when it will be out…
Quite nice, but the especially the queue view is nearly exactly the same as Transmit’s. The same goes for the connect panel…
I’m liking what I see so far.
As for the progress/activities bar, I like it, but maybe instead of a bright white “No Activities” make it a lack-luster grey? Like White for when things are happening, and the grey for when nothing is going on so my eyes don’t get caught by it? I guess there’s going to be a lot of opinions. I like the idea of it constantly being there. As long as it’s being honest, then I know when the app is doing something and when it isn’t.
But yeah… That’s just me.
Thank you guys for working hard and thank you for all the news.
I would like to like the new main window more if I could. But I really miss what it looked like before. PLEASE BRING BACK THE STATUS BAR! I cannot rest my eyes now for the big black progress-bar at the bottom even when there is no activities. It’s out of place. How about when there is no activities, the big black progress-bar will hide automatically, and the main window will only show the status bar.
Glad to hear ForkLift is not dead in the water and development is apparently moving forward. Can you please advise where one can find Public Betas for testing?
Also, can the Binary Nights team talk to some of the open issues with ForkLift, such as lacking Amazon S3 support (incorrect MIME-Type for CSS files, …), and also “absolute” handling of Unix symlinks opposed to “relative”, etc?
The updated GUI, transfer queue, and connection manager sounds nice, but where can we find improvements surrounding what’s improved under-the-hood?
@pixelchutes
Hey there,
the latest Public Beta is available here:

To get more info about latest developments it is worth checking out our Forum:

and of course we are blogging again as frequently as possible, so keep an eye on the Blog.
@TwiRp
We are with you there… and you have a point with the grey for no activities, we were just thinking about something like this, so keep checking back and make sure to try the next release when its out.
Wow, looks a lot like Transmit. How about you come up with something original. There’s more than one way to skin a chicken.
Looks sweet! When will it be released?
Looks great!
Any plans for adding support for Rackspace CloudFiles?
@Jim
More than one way to skin a chicken? Now that is original.
On a more positive note I’m looking forward to trying out the new features in the next beta but I’m already thinking nothing more is needed to out class the others. T3 hasn’t got my upgrade and I don’t think it will.
@ATS
This feature is on our to-do list since quite a long time already, but we didn’t actually manage to get there, yet. We definitely plan to add support for Rackspace CloudFiles somewhen, just can’t tell you an exact date, at this point.
Actually, I’m using the Beta 2 of Forklift for 2 month (approx) and it’s very fast and easy to use. There is still some freeze some very rare times, but nothing different from Forklift 1. It might come from FTP issue with my server.
By the way, I think that the transfer queue at the bottom is a great idea (in my opinion), and I can’t wait to test that Beta 3.
Thank you for your program guys. It rocks.
What´s the point in re-designing some windows ?
- Stacks not working
- Connection failures
- Dual Pane Errors when closing in 1Pane view
- wrong sorting in column view
- and and and
Why not make the app work first and then think about new features and improving the interface ???
I see a lot of criticism about the developers not really listening to the user´s demands …..
Hey – we´re supposed to be your future customers right ?
@robert: I’m sure all of these issues you bring up are also being addressed, it is only on the second public beta after all! I’m a longtime user of ForkLift and have found the devs to be very responsive to users. Where is all this criticism you speak of?
I like the direction the progress bar is going, but I think it should be hidden when there are no activities. The connect panel and favorites organizer look great. Excited to give them all a spin in the next beta.
Looks great, the popups were often hidden behind other windows, so it would seem like the process didn’t start, and I’d start a second/third one. Can’t wait for the stable release!
Would you please consider one small added feature to the sync window ; the ability to deselect files from being synced.
Hi vissy,
you can exclude files or folders by clicking on edit right to Filter items in the Sync panel. Don’t forget to check the checkbox in front as well after you defined your filters.
Gly,
you must be kidding…. how uninconvenient is this.
Why not just have a checkbox at every file, or simply the ability to click the green plus icon to uncheck a file from being synced. This is how all the other sync apps work and it is so much easier and intuitive than to have to go through yet another dialog box and start building expressions.
The expressions are great to have, but for quick and on the fly syncing this is really over the top
@vissy
It is already on our todo list.
I love Forklift and have been using version one for ages now. There is just one feature I am desperate for though. That is the ftp as a mounted drive similar to Transmit4. This is such a great feature, especially as a web designer, it means I can save a file in Photoshop straight to the server instantly.
Is this a feature in the pipeline? If not then sadly I will have to get a Transmit license which will mean I will then own about 6 ftp apps :S I only want one, and the one I want is Forklift
@Suleiman Leadbitter
The good news is that this feature is already available in Forklift 2 beta 2.
Grab it from here:http://download.binarynights.com/ForkLift2Beta2.zip
Happy now?
