Hello People.
OK, so here’s one last beta release (the fourth). To be honest, the main reason for making this release is that I (Csaba) am still not finished with the Help pages (shame on me) and this is the best way to buy me a couple of extra days.
Because otherwise, your beta installations would stop working with today’s expiration of the beta period.
So we’re releasing this fourth beta version -which will work until March 15, just to be sure- in the hope of getting your the final release very soon after the weekend.
That said, there were a couple of minor fixes from 1.5b3 (thanks for your help guys), and one major: ForkLift should now work 100% with AFP and SMB shared resources of the local network.
So, if you have Samba shares on your network, your testing and input is still welcome.
OK, I’ll go back to work now, and will bring you an update early next week.
Have a good weekend you all

Favorites seem to be working again after the b3 interlude; thanks.
Still not sure why owner and group info is only displayed numerically on SFTP connections, and it’d be really nice if the preview pane’s text fields were editable so we didn’t have to bring up the Get Info window–it’s kind of redundant having both.
I do not know why You say that it is the last Beta.
Moving files under Leopard on different volumes is still not working. It just copies them.
Also when moving files, it still doesn’t display properly in Activity Viewer how much it copied, it just displays “Calculating Size” till it is done copying (remember, it just copies the files and doesn’t move them).
Still no folder compare!! Please, that is so essential in a two pane file manager….we do not need (for now) any complex syncing and revisions and all that, just a simple folder compare style muCommander or better Total Commander, that highlights different files based on name, size, etc. I cannot see how you can work without that.
signed: The folder compare campaign. FC
Samba shares are mixed. Eg i have 2 Machines with shares, machine A, share “a” is mounted and i switch to machine B is see shares a(from machina A), and all shares from B. I think this did not happen in the previous Beta
Thank you for your hard work guys!
Here’s my feedback:
1) I confirm.. shares are mixed, when I click single shared computer, then all computers’ mounted shares are visible.
2) There should be visible *available* for selected computer, rather than mounted (as in Finder).
3) Another thing is that opening a share then going back to enclosing folder moves me to /Volumes, while I’d be more happy if it moved me back to share list.
4) It is not possible to save remote computer, neither remote share as favorite (Not there’s an option to connect to remote computer… , please add “Samba” type in Cmd+K window.
And plizz don’t forget about those vital shortcuts listed in “FEATURES” and page/up/end/home handling listed in “BUGS”:

Those are really minimum coding but life savers, w-o them I’m forced to use console Midnight Commander for so many tasks.
You’ll make me cry so much once you release final 1.5 without those ;P
Cheers!
Oh my, sorry for my awkward English, I haven’t slept much last night
At point 2. I meant that FL should list all available shared (as Finder does), not only mounted ones.
Hi,
First of all….great work!
I having a lot of trouble, browsing remote afp volumes through a vpn connection.
Its really really really slow, and often just hangs so i have to force quit!
Its not the connection, as its work fine in Finder.
Cheers
Mikkel
WebDAV doesn’t appear to work in Forklift 1.5. I use BingoDisk, which only allows WebDAV access.
I could connect to it perfectly using Forklift 1.2. I haven’t been able to connect at all using ForkLift 1.5. I tried with both beta 3 and beta 4. Both give me the same error message: “Could not authenticate to server: rejected Digest challenge”.
Good luck getting everything done on time!
I cannot live without this app, you rock
I experienced troubles copying from my mac to a specific XP SMB share using the Finder (it happens only with one workstation, other SMB shares work fine) and the same issue appears with ForkLift.
This is a reported issue concerning implementation of Samba, symptoms are simple disappearance of files on the SMB share just after copy is done.
Using ‘cp’ to copy files, everything works perfectly fine.
Maybe you should add ‘native UNIX’ commands support to ForkLift, that would add even more value to your software.
Anyways, great product, I am looking forward to get my hands on 1.5
Great work guys! Can’t wait for the final release!
I’ve tried out this latest beta a bit now. Very impressed with the speed and remote access capabilities!
I have one request that would make it even more flexible, regarding workflow and personal preference: How about two more visibility switches? One for sidebar, one for the second pane? I agree the double-pane view is wonderful for the “management” side of a file manager, but often I just browse for stuff and then the second pane can feel like an unnecessary distraction.
Hi, I’ve spotted 2 extra bugs in 1.5b4, one is pretty serious.
Doing delete on symlink, deletes underlaying file/folder pointed by link instead of deleting only symlink! THIS IS PRETTY DANGEROUS BUG, I’ve almost lost some of my data because of that.
2nd is that count folder size doesn’t work correctly, I’ve one folder which is 2GB, but when Shift+Cmd+S it is only 400MB, but when I go into that folder select all and to Shift+Cmd+S then it is 2GB.
I just want to confirm that I would love to see an option in preferences (or somewhere) to turn the overwrite confirmation off. Someone else wrote this: http://www.binarynights.com/blog/?p=38#comment-643 and I just wanted to raise my hand and say I really want this (super annoying after long hours of using Forklift, which I do).
Love the app, otherwise!!
@Adam
Great job on finding this bug – mudi’s already fixed it.
We’re all busy getting the final release ready. Will be back in a couple of days with real news.
BN
I’ve experienced this:
-copying from a server via sftp
-activity monitor shows data perfectly (files, percent, time…)
-after a time, AM shows ‘Calculating’ and percentage-gauge stops moving
-some data has been copied
-cannot abort in AM
-this happend several times with this release (1.5b4)
but as i remember there were no errors with b3
so: somewhere FL stucks
(both endpoint has strong links and resources)
[keep on dev, .hu rocks ;-]
Hellas,
today is the 15th of march and therefore I get a “This beta version of ForkLift has expired”. Could you please provide a fifth beta which will not expire until you finish 1.5 final (maybe end of march)?
By the way – one thing which is really annoying about ForkLift: You got 2 folders “foo”. In one of them there is a folder “bar1″ and in the other one there is a folder “bar2″. If you copy the first “foo” folder (“bar1″) to the directory where the second folder “foo” (“bar2″) is located, ForkLift asks if it should relace “foo”. In the end you got 2 “foo” folders with a “bar2″ subfolder but the second one should contain both (“bar1″ and “bar2″) subfolders.
And of course I also have a small feature request – I’d like to change devices by shortcut. I really miss this feature as a former TC user.
Thanks in advance
Andre
OK, it’s 15 March and nothing here. What’s going on?
my shit done expired dawg! I’m a paid user too! This just ain’t kosher, namsayin!!?
Word is bond
aye, beta is expired today. wazzup now?
I had Forklift bought for me by my wife for my 4th March birthday.”I downloaded this last version but the “enter serial number” was “greyed out. I thought it would be available when it expired but it has not. So, I’ve just down loaded an earlier version but that is immediately expired.
What a load of crap this is, I can’t even get a working copy of the program for which payment has been made.
This has NEVER happened in 20 years of experience with Windows programmes.
Furthermore I can see no way of communicating directly with the company, so have to post this complaint on this inappropriate place.
BTW, folks, if you want to see what a proper file manager looks like, try Total Commander for windows.
Hey guys, the beta has expired and no new version yet. How can we disable the time check!?
Styx: confirmed and I’ve posted bugs on it for V1.5b3 which wasn’t fixed in 1.5b4.
Binarynights: I’m sure I’m not the only one that woud prefer another beta that fixed as many bugs as possible that took longer to release than forcing 1.5 out the door too soon…
Others: I tried looking in the Forklift app bundle to see if the expiry date was hackable, and in the prefs file but couldn’t find it. Csaba and others, it would be good if we could manually override it…
Terry Marshall: submit a bug report or try emailing bugreport at binrynights dot com. The Binarynights guys are nice and responsible developers, it just appears there is a glitch somewhere. This seems like the prefs for the expired beta are being read by V1.2 which is stopping registering (sounds logical no?)
If so, try to delete your preferences file found at ~/Library/Preferences/com.binarynights.ForkLift.plist — do a system files spotlight search to catch any other forklift related files…
Um so yeah – just tried to install the Beta and it wont let me play as its expired. Any idea when this will be updated? Really need the FXP function and this product looks awesome. Update soon?
Yeah – come on – you don’t let us play with Forklift 1.5 on weekend !
It’s the only days I can trie out new software.
Maybe I’ll check out Pathfinder.
Ciao.
Can I use 1.2 on Leopard? I finally found the notes for the 1.5 release and it mentions its a Leopard release (wasn’t Leopard 4-5 months ago now?). But I don’t know if I can try 1.2 on my iMac.
Well here is hoping the problem is fixed soon. (Seriously – a 2 week expiry on a beta program???)
I think the developer is mocking us. With previous beta, it was the same, 1 day waiting for a new beta.
Maybe, a small workaround: Set the date before march 15. Start Forklift. Reset the date to the current date, but keep Forklift open until you shut down your mac. – Forklift seems to check the date only on startup. This should help until binarynights releases a new beta or the final version. regards phi
I DEMAND A REFUND OR A LAWSUIT WILL OCCUR
I PAID FOR WORKING PROGRAM WITH SERIAL.
I HAVE SERIAL AND PROGRAM DOES NOT WORK.
ARE THESE PEOPLE SERIOUS?
OK, unfortunatly the workaround doesn’t work all the time. cheers, phil
WHN, come on, you can use the 1.2 version with your serial, you are not forced to use the unofficial beta version. Your serial will work when the final 1.5 is out. I’ve also paid for the program but I don’t think I should sue them for a non-working beta program when a stable official version is exist.
Hi Guys,
Sorry for being late with the final…
I just want to let you know we are working on it and should be out today.
We’ll get back to you when have more news.
Mudi
WHN: V1.5 is a *beta* test version, not a final release! Stop shouting like a petulant immature teenager. V1.2 should work fine with your serial number, if not follow my advice above in comment 23, drink a warm milk and calm down…
@phi : Your awesome, changing time took 2 seconds & works great for today!

kthx
Does 1.2 work with Leopard?
WHH, you’re an idiot. People say lawyers are the problem. I say it’s the people who shout “LAWSUIT” whenever something doesn’t go exactly as planned.
Go grab a chill pill and wait a few hours. It’s a great program, and if you ARE running Leopard, just go back in your Time Machine and restore your 1.2 version. Sheesh.
