So, when is the next release coming?

December 14th, 2007

Hello Everyone!

We’ve received a lot of requests for an ETA on our next release, and since we’ve been very quietly busy these past weeks, it seemed the right time for an update.

Our best estimate for the release is somewhere between January 1-January 31. It’s really the most accurate we can do – although most of the work is now done, we have a hundred little things to check, and unexpected things have been popping up from under coffee mugs.
And we don’t want to rush it either, want to get it right.

BTW ForkLift 1.5 will be a free upgrade. If you want to ask why the jump to 1.5 from 1.2, it’s like this: the release was supposed to be 2.0, but we wanted to keep it a free upgrade, and also because 1.5 rhymes better with Leopard.

It snowed today… looks like we might have snow for the holidays. Time to get the sledge up from the basement.

Good nights, People

Like the sound of that and like the price of it, too!

    Nice! The sooner the better.

  3. A beta would be nice ;-)

  4. Mike says:

I second the request for a beta. Current Transmit user, very interested in this product though.

  5. Glad to hear it’s coming soon! You guys make an awesome app. I had been stuck with Cyberduck for a while and couldn’t take it any longer. I was hoping I wouldn’t have to buy Transmit and thanks to you guys taking part in the MacUpdate Promo bundle, I didn’t have to put down $30 for an FTP client.

Though even if you hadn’t taken part in the MacUpdate Promo bundle, I still probably would have bought ForkLift because it has so many great features! I especially like the app deleter. Saved me spending another $15 just for an app uninstaller!

Also, if you need any beta testers, definitely let me know. I’d love to test for you.

I’m sorry to report I found Forklift FTP much slower than Yummy FTP. I also find the renaming feature counterintuitive compared to Renamer4Mac. I know you intend to improve FL and hope you find this feedback useful. Look forward to next version.

  7. I just recently found I could do remote editing, locally! I have been wanting an FTP client that will do this for SOO long! You guys have made my day! My web development will be so much quicker now.

Your program alredy has very good features. But I have some suggestions, cause I’m a Total Commander-switcher and total keyboard guy :o )

I want to navigate completely with keyboard, so please put in…

1.) (important) a way to select multiple files with keyboard that are not one after another (per space or ins?)

2.) (important) move current selection to top of fileslist with left arrow, with right arrow to end or full adjustable in preferences (home-, end-keys, …)
At this moment, with home and end only the view moves but not the selection.
Unfortunenately Forklift ignores the ~/Library/KeyBindings – settings for cocoa-apps.

3.) a shortcut for opening a Favorites-Window to choose from with arrow-keys. This Favorite must be opened in the current pane. (I simply like to choose Favorites via keyboard…)

4.) a shortcut for opening the ComboBox over each pane (to choose Volumes/upper dirs)

5.) a confim dialog on copy, move, delete with focus on “yes” in case of accidental keystrokes

    6.) remember created tabs

7.) (maybe) a lister for textfiles or other quickview – now I have to open the editor every time I like to view content

8.) (maybe) the “..” on top of lower dirs (maybe a toggle in preferences would be good)

    Thanks for your attention.

  9. Keimling says:

Oh, an how do I delete a assigned shortcut?

I’d like to see a feature to grab the public URL (http) for a file I have selected on a remote server. I upload files for clients to download, and it would be great to be able to just highlight the uploaded file and be able to have the public URL of the file copied to the clipboard.

Perhaps auser pref per bookmark to specify what is prepended? The new release of Interarchy does this, download a copy for reference. Interarchy looks nice, but dual-pane seems like a no-brainer for an FTP app. At least I won’t use one without.

Looking forward to the new release, once Adobe fixes CS3 I’ll feel comfortable jumping to 10.5.

  11. Patrik says:

I hope that Forklift 1.5 will support the ability in Amazon S3 to create european buckets for us on this side of the atlantic ocean. Both the latest Transmit and Interarchy is missing this feature and I really need it. So I cross my fingers that Forklift will make my day am much brighter one when it is realeased.

  12. Maciek says:

When we’re talking about hopes – I hope 1.5 is coming out really soon. Moving files doesn’t work on 10.5 – that’s upsetting enough to drop using Forklift for a while, please be quick!

  13. Tim says:

I’m just hoping that Leopard manages to be updated in time to keep up with ForkLift. Maybe you guys should write the code for Apple. While you’re at it, maybe you could give Unsanity a hand . . .

  14. Joe says:

ForkLift is the best filehandling-application i’ve ever seen on the mac. Expecially your Screenshots showing ForkLift 1.5 are faszinating me!

I Hope 1.5 will come out as soon as possible, haven’t bought 1.2 yet because I’m watintg for the next release. Hurry up, guys. And keeo up your good work!

  15. Bob says:

I too am an avid users of Total Commander until switching to the Mac. Love Forklift, but woud like to see more features of TC in your product. Be glad to share with you if are interested.
Would appreciate more frequent updates on when 1.5 is due.
Thanks for an already fine product.

  16. james r. spencer says:

I wanted to buy this product using American Express or Visa, but I will not use paypal.

  17. Chriswan Winata says:

Looking forward towards version 1.5 :)

  18. Karsten says:

I’d buy Forklift if I could use european buckets with Amazon S3.
