Snow Leopard support – sort of

August 29th, 2009

We finally have a tested build of ForkLift 1.7.3 that runs on Snow Leopard.

As I said in the previous post, we’re not entirely satisfied with this release and it really is just a ‘hot fix’, a transient build that merely aims to allow Snow Leopard users to continue using ForkLift.

The release if fully functional on Leopard and is stable on Snow Leopard as well, though its functionality is limited in 2 aspects on Snow Leopard.

1. QuickLook will only work on local files. I know.

2. AFP shared volumes are not detected correctly by this build. The workaround is to connect to AFP shares via Finder first. Once mounted in Finder, you will be able to use ForkLift to manage them in the normal way.

We are continuing work on a true Snow Leopard release with the help of Apple’s developer support team.

You can download the fix by following this link:

Thanks for your patience everyone.

Thanks for the temporary fix, SL was reminding me why Forklift is so much better than finder :-)

  2. Binary Nights Team,

I am very impressed with how quickly and responsibly you have handled/are handling the Mac OS 10.6 compatibility issue. Thank you for treating this issue with the utmost importance.

Thank you so much for the info and this kind of openness. I’m very happy to hear development status and am willing to keep on using ForkLift anyway – you know what “customer support” means! ;-)

    @Joe

This is a different version than the one we’ve published yesterday on our forums. This one works – or at least, it seems to work for everybody else. Can you give it another try? If it really crashes, please send us a crash report to support@binarynights.com

  9. Just wanted to say thank you for such a quick response to the SL incompatibility! I just installed it yesterday and tried to launch Forklift this morning. Needless to say, it didn’t work, so I came to your website and found that you had addressed it already! Many thanks!

Thank you for pushing this out sooner rather then later. Keep up the Great work! Really appreciate this temp fix.

  15. It was a big disappointment, of course, unsuccessfully to attempt opening ForkLift under SL. Since, of course, I couldn’t use ‘check for updates,’ I went to the website where I got complete information and a compress to staunch the bleeding. This is at the extreme end of the honesty; at the other end, I actually had a communication that said “Don’t upgrade to SL until we release our next version at some indefinite time in the future.” Sheesh, why don’t they write exclusively for that other OS?

    Thanks.

    Thanks a lot.

Thanks for the fix, it works more or less. Still lots of random crashes, but it’s a start.

    Keep up the good work!

    Hello developers,
also thank you for quick responces to my questions in mail dialog although I use Forklift for a few days. I dont have much crashes far from it I think my 1.7.5 its stable. My problem is to mount different protected volumes of my server.

My trick up to now is to mount the different folders in AppleFinder and store theme as »Favorite«. But it will be better, to have access/view about all Folders of our server (that you can have access to one folder in a session-login is ok).
