ForkLift is complete once again.
As you probably noticed, we’ve passed the past 3-4 months in a quagmire called ‘ForkLift is no longer able to connect to AFP shares on Snow Leopard’.
It is difficult to describe the feeling – us, the self-proclaimed masters of connecting to all known devices failing to manage the most native form of sharing on Mac. For months we looked to Apple to magically send us a solution, but this proved to be an unreasonable hope. So, leaving Infinite Loop about 2 weeks ago, we decided to take matters in our own hands: to create our own implementation for AFP from scratch.
At the end of the first week we’ve lost about 40 hours of sleep each, immersed way above our heads in some real low-level stuff (handling Diffie–Hellman key exchange and such), we finally cracked the problem, coded our own procedures, and today we are proud to present our latest release, the one restoring ForkLift to its full splendor on SL:
ForkLift 1.7.6 ! Get it while it’s hot!
With version 1.7.6 Snow Leopard users can again connect to AFP shares on their local network by simply clicking the shared resource’s icon in the Sidebar, in the usual manner.
So things are back to normal, and we can go back focusing on version 2.0. There is also a positive byproduct: having our own implementation means we now have a solution that will work reliably on all current and future versions of OS X.
This release also contains a handful of other fixes:
Amazon S3 connections cured
in some cases, ForkLift reported successful transfer of files to an S3 volume even though the operation was completed only partially. Thanks are owned in part to the guys who helped us track this one down.
Also, we’ve fixed another major issue we had with S3, and that is default ACL handling. S3 connections’ default ACL setting (public, private-read, private-write, authenticated-write) will now be applied correctly to all files uploaded through the given connection.
Flawless Eject returns
Several users reported problems ejecting mounted devices and shares, with short hangs and ForkLift preventing ejecting devices even through Finder. We expect this to be working again as well.
Go To Folder
Hitting ‘Go’ with the destination field empty produced a crash. Fixed
With this I conclude this post, the last in our series on service releases for Snow Leopard.
Good nights everyone

I’m so thankful for this release—thanks a bunch, guys!
Wow, pretty extreme lengths to go to fix a bug; I wish Apple had been more helpful!!!
You guys rock. Seriously, that kind of dedication to your product is why I recommend Forklift to my friends and clients. Thanks for all the hard work you put in to it.
way to go! On a smaller note, I’d like to request a ‘copy full path to clipboard’ similar to the ‘copy url to clipboard’ but without the escaped characters (spaces, etc). Thanks for a really great app! Due to Transmit’s inclination towards odd bugs lately, and Forklift’s batch-rename function, I’ve moved completely to Forklift. The only thing I miss is Columns view, and opening folders with many larger files tends to be slow with Forklift. It’s a really great FTP app, thanks!

The AFP bug is not fixed it is now problem on Leopard. I cannot connect to other macs since I updated Forklift 1.7.6! (It still works with Finder)
So it seems the problem is has just switched from Snowleopard to Leopard.
Please can you fix this problem? I’m not ready to switch to Snowleopard, not all my programs work on Snowleopard.
Hi Guys,
I was waiting so long for this, but it dosn´t work for me on SL.
I can connect to my other Mac but not automatically. I always have to press connect as then promt the password. Thats annoying.
The bigger problem is that I cannot connect at all to my NAS via AFP (QNAP).
With Finder everything works fine without probs.
Please fix the last 5%.
Regards René
I’ve got to chime in with Riezz here — I had to roll back to 1.7.5 to get back my AFP support on Leopard 10.5.8. Hopefully Apple will help you guys out with some official, supported AFP interfaces (and not re-break them in OS upgrades).
Well, I’m glad it’s not just me having this problem…
The latest and greatest version of ForkLift still does not connect to my AFP shares on my ReadyNAS 1100.
Hello Boys and Girls,
The problem with AFP seems to be a compatibility issue. Our implementation uses AFP 3.3 and your devices may work with an earlier version. Mudi is now working on a fix – we hope we’ll have a test build by the end of the week. I’ll post it here so we can try it out before publishing.
Stay tuned
Hi csaba,
Aplle has fixed an issue with AFP in the latest SL release.
Maybe this effects your work?
