1.7 Beta, the sequel

May 1st, 2009

Just a quick update to the 1.7 beta, because the first beta is about to expire (some of you may have already noticed).
Of course, we’ve fixed a number of issues, like the dock hogging 4% of CPU resource, and some smaller inconveniences – but, to tell the truth, the Beta is not yet ready for an official, stable release.

Perhaps, we could have managed to fix everything for today, but honestly, we’ve been kept awake at nights by our new components for the 2.0 (Damn you, column view!!!), and had less time to spend on the current release.

In any case, the 1.7 is well worth a second round of Beta testing, so here we go:

ForkLift 1.7 Beta 2

Your bug reports and comments are still welcome – please use the dedicated forum thread.

Have a nice weekend everyone

    Does the “defaults write com.binarynights.ForkLift FileView.TableView.FontName” trick work with this version?

    Thanks!

  2. csaba says:

    @Konstantinos
    I’m not sure, but why don’t you go ahead and try? The worst that can happen is that the trick doesn’t work.

  3. Konstantinos says:

    @csaba
    Thank you for the prompt reply. I just tried it and it doesn’t work. This was also the case with 1.6 (or at least its trial version).

    Any chance this hack can be re-implemented please?

    (Note that I also tried “FileView.TableView.Font”, “FileView.TableView.FontFace” and all of the above without dots in between the words since that seemed to fit more with the schema used in the plist file; nothing!)

  4. Mudi says:

    @Konstantinos try ListViewFontName and ListViewFontSize.
    I think it should work but too lazy to try :)

  5. Konstantinos says:

    @Mudi ListViewFontName indeed works! Thank you for that tip sir!

  6. eniac says:

    Oh may god!! My beta has expired!!

    I really miss the synchronize feature…

  7. nate beaty says:

    oh may god indeed. any word on the Growl alerts? miss that feature.

  8. csaba says:

    @nate
    yeah, we rewrote parts of the activity view module, and we haven’t put back the code that handles Growl. It won’t be missing from the final release.

  9. csaba says:

    @eniac
    you must be using the 1st beta still!!
    the second beta, linked in this post, is valid until june 1st!

    Sziasztok,

    Nekem van egy érvényes forklift licenszem, 1.6 verzió fut vele. Használható lesz ez a licensz az új verzió esetében?

    üdv és köszi a remek programért!

  11. eniac says:

    thanks csaba. I didn’t know that there was a second beta.

  12. csaba says:

    @Vonsvarc

    Sure, your 1.6 license is good for all versions up to 2.0.

  13. Vonsvarc says:

    Thanks Csaba for quick response! I have read your interview in HVG! Happy to see Hungary getting to be more interested in Mac World. Guys like you help a lot.

  14. ffx says:

    If Forklift had a faster gui and faster dir load speeds, I would buy it immediatly.

  15. csaba says:

    @ffx
    I don’t know what you’re saying, man. ForkLift’s UI is superhumanly fast ;)
    And the speed at which directory contents are listed depend uniquely on your connection and the server or volume your connecting to, not ForkLift.

  16. Alex says:

    The trial periode for the 2. Beta is over. Is Beta No. 3 coming soon ?

  17. MySZ says:

    Hello, do you know, that this beta expired too? :(

  18. HD says:

    Hey, couldn’t the betas be without trial period for registered users? I feel like using the old Servant Salamander Update/Betas again :-D .

  19. csaba says:

    Hi Everyone,

    As you have undoubtedly noticed the second beta has expired, and we’re now asking you for a little patience.

    There will be no third beta, because there’s nothing left to test – all errors seem to have been discovered, and we just need a couple-three days more to complete the final release.

    I know that temporarily stepping back to 1.6 will seem a bit odd, but bear in mind that ForkLift 1.6 is still the greatest filemanager out there.

    Thanks for your patience
